A four-team play off was conducted at the New Hartford field last night. The four teams had played each other twice and were looking forward to the additional games. The 6-0 North Utica Raiders played the 4th place 0-6 West Utica Jaguars in the 5:00 PM game and the second place 4-2 East Utica Panthers played the third place 2-4 New Hartford Bears at 6:00 PM. The losers of each game were scheduled to play at 7:00 PM and the winners at 8:00 PM. Each game was actually a mini game that consisted of two ten-minute periods. This allowed each team to play four quarters of football.
As expected, the North Utica Raiders completely dominated the first game with a 20-6 victory over the West Utica Jaguars. The New Hartford Bear - East Utica Panther match up was a different story. The Panthers had previously beaten the Bears by scores of 18-8 and 12-6 and the Bears were looking to turn things around. Ronald Tarver and Walter Phillips were the players the Bears had to stop. The Panthers and Raiders played a scoreless first half of the 8:00 PM game. However, the Raider's strong running game lead by Keith Kerwin prevailed in the second half. The final score was Raiders 26 Panthers 6.
It was a very enjoyable evening and all four teams left the field looking forward to next Sunday when the North Utica Raiders-West Utica Jaguars All Stars will play the East Utica Panthers-New Hartford Bears All Stars. Since each team will field "A" and "B" all stars, there will be two games and everyone will have an opportunity to play one more game.
