The Tri County Central Jr Middie and Jr. Ranger Championship games were played on the The New Hartford High School Field today. The New Hartford Bears won the Jr. Middie League championship with a 13-7 victory over the Clinton Warriors and the New Hartford Cubs won the Jr. Ranger League chanpionship with a 13-7 victory over the Whitestown Cherokees.
New Hartford Bears @ Mt Markham Colts - October 19, 2003
Game captains Dylan Hoffman, Mike Kelly, Peter McGee lost the opening coin toss and the Bears started the game on defense. Reggie German, Bryan Hoffman, Dylan Hoffman, Matthew Maggio and Peter McGee were on the line. Nick Horth Joey Carcone and Dominick Masi were at the linebackers. Joey Desens, Mike Kelly and Greg Hecker were in the secondary. This unit forced the Colts to punt after making 11 yards and one first down.
The Bear offensive unit had Reggie German, Andrew Bushey, Nick Horth, Dylan Hoffman, Bryan Hoffman, Matthew Maggio and Alex Grimmer on the line. Mike Kelly, Joey Desens, Joey Carcone and Peter McGee were in the backfield. Late in the first quarter this unit with the help of Andrew Miller, Dominick Masi and Greg Hecker moved the ball down field. Joey Desens grabbed a pass from Mike Kelly and ran to the 10-yard line. Peter McGee then powered the ball to the 1-yard line. It looked good for the Bears; however, a movement penalty moved it back to the six. Joey Desens then scored around the end as the Bears took a 6-0 lead. A broken play for the extra point made the score 7-0 as a scrambling Mike Kelly completed a pass to Dominick Masi for the extra point.
Near the end of the first half Colt offense scored a touchdown to make it a one-point ball game. The Colts decided to try to kick for a two-point conversion. The Bears were up to the challenge. Dylan Hoffman led a hard charging line as he blocked the kick to keep the Bears in the lead. The first half ended with the score Bears 7 - Colts 6.
The second half started with the Bears on offense. Ammar Kaashmiri, Glen Bland, Dan Duffy, Brian Mathias, Trent Herring, Nick Lavanti and Steve Maggio were on the line. Fred DelGenio, Brad Jones, Sean Badger and Matt Smith were in the backfield. They could not move the ball; however, an excellent kicking game and great defense kept the Bears in the game.
Jakob Kamilow, Joel Kamilow and Thomas Nitti entered the game to bolster the Bear offense but the clock expired before the Bears could score again. The game ended with a jubilant Bear team as they celebrated their 7-6 play off victory.
After the game the coaching staff stated "We played a great defensive game today. We certainly did not do much on offense. We just could not make things happen there, but we won. Next Sunday we play for the championship. We have to really stay focused this week at practice so that we are ready to play the best game of the season at that time."
West Utica Jaguars @ New Hartford Bears - October 12, 2003
Game captains Peter McGee, Joey Desens and Joey Carcone won the opening coin toss and the Bears started the game on offense. Reggie German, Andrew Bushey, Nick Horth, Dylan Hoffman, Bryan Hoffman, Matt Maggio and Alex Grimmer were on the line and Mike Kelly, Joey Desens, Joey Carcone and Peter McGee were in the backfield. With the help of Andrew Miller, Dominick Masi and Greg Hecker the Bears relentless drove the ball down field. Joey Carcone scored the first Bear touchdown through a gaping hole created by Andrew Bushey and Dylan Hoffman and a fine lead block by Nicholas Horth. The Jaguars blocked the extra point attempt, as the score remained 6-0.
The Bear defense did an equally fine job of shutting down the Jaguar offense. It was 3 plays and a punt for the Jaguars. With the help of Jakob Kamilow, Glen Bland and Thomas Nitti and a pass completion from Mike Kelly to Alex Grimmer the Bears again moved the ball down field. The drive appeared stalled near the 14-yard line but then Joey Desens completed a touchdown pass to Alex Grimmer. Mike Kelly completed the extra point pass to Dominick Masi. Neither team scored again in first half-ended as it ended with the Bears leading by a score of 13-0.
The Bear defense forced a punting situation when the Jaguars started the second half on offense. Quinton Jackson, a very talented ball carrier lined up as the punter. His punt protection broke down and he was forced to run. Quinton eluded several tacklers as he ran 70 yards for the first Jaguar score. The extra point pass attempt was good and the Bear lead was cut to 13-7.
Jacob Kamilow, Glen Bland and Thomas Nitti entered the game as the Bears quickly moved the ball down to the 12-yard line. Matthew Maggio and Alex Grimmer then opened a hole for Andrew Miller as he scored a touchdown behind a fine lead block by Joey Carcone. The extra point attempt failed and the score remained 19-7. Mike Kelly intercepted a pass to end the next Jaguar possession. The Bears struck quickly as Reggie German ran a Mike Kelly pass for 60 yards and a touchdown. A pass to Joey Carcone scored the extra point and the Bears had a 26-7 lead.
Ammar Kaashmiri, Nick Gonzales, Brian Mathias, Trent Herring, Nick Lavanti and Steve Maggio entered the game to play defensive line. Sean Badger, Joel Kamilow and Dan Duffy were the linebackers. Fred DelGenio, Brad Jones, and Matt Smith entered were in the secondary. This unit executed very well but could not over come the elusiveness of Quinton Jackson as he scored his second touchdown of the day. He also scored the extra point and the Bear lead was reduced to 26-13.
Both teams scored one more time. Joey Desens scored on a pass from Mike Kelly. Quinton Jackson scored on a 54 yard running play, as he was touched by no less than 9 Bear players. The Jaguar extra point attempt was good and the game ended with the score 32-20.
After the game the coaching staff stated "We played a much better game today. We made a few mistakes but we able to overcome them. We are in the playoffs by virtue of our 5-1 record. Our next two games are really going to be tough. We have to stay focused and play them one game at a time."
New Hartford Bears @ Whitestown, NY - October 5, 2003
Game captains Mike Kelly, Dylan Hoffman and Dominick Masi lost the opening coin toss and the Whitestown Braves started the game on offense. The Bear defense had Peter McGee, Bryan Hoffman, Dylan Hoffman, Matt Maggio and Reggie German on the line. Nick Horth, Joey Carcone and Dominick Masi were the linebackers and Joey Desens, Mike Kelly and Greg Hecker were in the secondary. The Braves quickly moved the ball down field to the Bear 3-yard line on a big pass play to the tight end on a Texas formation. The Braves led by a one man wrecking crew called Matt Tutino, then scored to take a 7-0 lead.
Andrew Bushey, Andrew Miller and Alex Grimmer entered the game as the Bear offensive unit took the field. The Bears made a first down but were unable to sustain the drive. Back on offense the Braves, aided by a long run through the line, marched downfield to score the second touchdown of the game. Neither team scored again as the half ended with the Braves leading by 14 points.
Ammar Kaashmiri, Nick Gonzales, Dan Duffy, Dylan Hoffman, Trent Herring, Nick Lavanti and Steve Maggio entered the game to play offensive line and Fred DelGenio, Brad Jones, Sean Badger and Matt Smith entered to play in the backfield at the start of the second half. They were unable to move the ball. Neither could the Braves as the Bear defense stopped them cold. The Bears then drove to the Brave 5-yard line but could not score as the third quarter ended.
Jakob Kamilow, Joel Kamilow and Thomas Nitti saw limited action in the fourth quarter as the teams traded touchdowns. Greg Hector scored for the Bears on a run through the line and Alex Grimmer scored the extra point on a pass from Mike Kelly. The game ended with the score 20-7.
After the game the coaching staff stated "We did not play a good game today. We made big mistakes on both sides of the ball and it really hurt us. We have some serious work ahead of us this week."
New Hartford Bears @Hamilton Giants - September 28, 2003
Game captains Joey Desens, Peter McGee and Joey Carcone lost the opening toss but when the Giants deferred their choice to the second half, the Bears started the game on offense. The Bear offense had Reggie German, Andrew Bushey, Nicholas Horth, Dylan Hoffman, Bryan Hoffman, Matthew Maggio and Alex Grimmer on the line. Joey Desens, Dominick Masi, Peter McGee and Mike Kelly were in the backfield. Joey Carcone and Andrew Miller were backfield alternates. A pass from McGee to Masi netted 30-yards. Another pass, this time from Kelly to German moved the ball to the 2-yard line. Peter McGee then carried the ball in for a touchdown. The extra point kicked failed and the score was 6-0.
The Bear defense came on the field with Alex Grimmer, Bryan Hoffman, Dylan Hoffman, Matt Maggio and Reggie German on the line. Nicholas Horth, Joseph Carcone and Dominic Masi were at the linebackers and Joe Desens, Peter McGee and Mike Kelly were in the secondary. It was 3 plays and a punt for the Giants. The punt was partially blocked by Matthew Maggio and the Bears had excellent field position. A pass from Michael Kelly to Alex Grimmer scored the second touchdown and the Bears led 12-0.
The Bears continued to play excellent defense. A hard charging line hurried the passer and enabled Michael Kelly to intercept a Giant pass. A long run by Reggie German moved the ball to the Giant 1-yard line. Kelly then scored the third Bear touchdown when a mix up in the backfield forced him to scramble around the end.
Jakob Kamilow, Trent Herring, Brian Mathias, Nicholas Lavanti and Steve Maggio entered the game to play defensive line. Dan Duffy, Joel Kamilow and Sean Badger were the linebackers and Fred DelGenio, Brad Jones, Thomas Nitti and Matt Smith were in the secondary. This unit with the help of Ammar Kaashmiri, Nicholas Gonzales, Glen Bland and Thomas Nitti gave up 2 first downs before forcing the Giants to give up the ball deep in Bear territory. The first half ended with a 56-yard pass play from Fred DelGenio to Brad Jones. The half ended as Brad was tackled near the Giant goal line.
It was a very exciting second half. The Giants scored first on a nice running play to make the score 18-6. The Bears came right back to score on a pass play from Kelly to Reggie German. However, the Giants then score two consecutive touchdowns to make it a very close 24-18 game. Joe Desens then scored the final TD of the game with an electrifying 65-yard run. The defense did not allow another score and the game ended with a 30-18 Bear victory.
After the game the coaching staff stated "Everyone played a good game today. We made some mistakes today but we were fortunate that they did not hurt us. 4-0 is an excellent start; however, next week we are going to be playing a very strong opponent and we will have to be at our best. We must all be very committed and give 100% effort at practice this week so that we are ready for the challenge.NH Bears 2003 Season Highlights Sauquoit Lions @ New Hartford Bears - September 21, 2003Game captains Bryan Hoffman, Matt Maggio and Alex Grimmer lost the opening toss and the Sauquoit Lions elected to start the game on offense. The Bear Defense had Peter McGee, Bryan Hoffman, Dylan Hoffman, Matt Maggio and Reggie German on the line. Nicholas Horth, Joseph Carcone and Andrew Bushey were at the linebackers and Joe Desens, Greg Hecker and Mike Kelly were in the secondary. It was 3 plays and a punt for the Lions. Joey Desens fielded the punt and returned it to the Lion 43-yard line. Behind an excellent block by Nick Horth, Joe Carcone advanced the ball to the 22-yard line. Greg Hecker moved the ball to the 3-yard line as Andrew Miller miss-directed the defense and excellent blocking by Reggie German and Andrew Bushey created a huge whole. Joe Desens then plunged in for the score as Bryan Hoffman and Matt Maggio opened up the hole and Alex Grimmer blocked the linebacker. The extra point attempt failed and the Bears led 6-0.
The Bears continued to play excellent defense and the Lions could not move the ball. Aggressive defense forced two Lion fumbles as both Dylan Hoffman and Joe Carcone had a fumble recovery. Greg Hecker scored the next TD as Dylan Hoffman and Matt Maggio opened the hole and Bryan Hoffman took out the linebacker. A pass from Michael Kelly to Joe Desens made the score 13-0. There was no more scoring in the first half but the Lions did move the ball to the Bear 5-yard line and had a first and goal situation as the clock ran out.
It was a very exciting second half as both teams scored two touchdowns. The Bears scored first as fullback Joe Carcone made a ferocious lead block and Greg Hecker scored the TD. A pass from Mike Kelly to Alex Grimmer made the score 20-0. Jakob Kamilow, Ammar Kaashmiri, Glen Bland, Nick Gonzales, Brian Mathias, Trent Herring Nicholas Lavanti and Steve Maggio entered the game to play defensive line. Dan Duffy, Joel Kamilow and Sean Badger were the linebackers and Fred DelGenio, Brad Jones, Thomas Nitti and Matt Smith were in the secondary. The Lions were not to be denied as they pushed the ball the length of the field to make the score 20-6. Joe Desens then scored the Bear's final TD of the Game. Michael Kelly ran in for the extra point and the Bears were ahead 27-6. The Lions scored the final TD as the game ended with the Bears a head 27-12.
After the game the coaching staff stated "We are proud of the way you played today. You executed well and beat a good team. 3-0 is a very good start but we need to keep working hard at our practice sessions to improve our play and have a successful season."
New Hartford @ East Utica, NY September 14, 2003
The New Hartford Bears posted a 22-6 victory over the East Utica Panthers at O'Conner Field. Bear game captains Reggie German, Andrew Bushey and Nicholas Horth won the opening toss and the Bears started the game on offense. Reggie German, Andrew Bushey, Nick Horth, Dylan Hoffman, Bryan Hoffman, Matt Maggio, and Alex Grimmer were on the line. Mike Kelly, Andrew Miller, Dominick Masi and Greg Hecker were in the backfield. The Bears made two first downs but were then forced to punt. Joey Desens and Peter McGee entered the game as the gunners on the punting unit. The snap was good, line blocking was excellent and the punt traveled about 38 yards to pin the Panthers deep in their own territory.
Joey Carcone entered the game to strengthen the Bear defense, which did an outstanding job of shutting down the Panther offense. On the next possession Joey Desens scored on an end run and a pass for the extra point from Mike Kelly to Dominick Masi put the Bears ahead by a score of 7-0. A strong pass rush by Peter McGee and Reggie German enabled Mike Kelly to intercept a Panther pass. The Bears then marched downfield as Mike Kelly skirted the end for a TD to make the score 13-0. The extra point kick attempt failed as the ball sailed low and to the right.
Jakob Kamilow, Glen Bland, Dan Duffy, Brian Mathias, Trent Herring Nicholas Lavanti and Steve Maggio entered the game to play offensive line. Fred DelGenio, Brad Jones, Sean Badger and Matt Smith entered to play in the backfield. They were unable to move the ball and the Bears were quickly back on defense. Neither team could move the ball as the half ended with the Bears leading 13-0.
The third quarter was a defensive battle as neither team scored. The Panthers put together a very exciting passing attack in the forth quarter to make the score 13-6. The Bear offense could not move the ball and once again were forced to punt. The punt was a beauty and the Panthers were pinned deep in their own territory. Peter McGee then sacked the Panther QB for a safety to make the score 15-6. The Bears scored an insurance TD on a beautiful 65-yard pass play from Mike Kelly to Alex Grimmer. Dominick Masi scored the extra point and the game ended with the score 22-6.
After the game the coaching staff stated "We are proud of the way you played today. You executed well and won the battle of penalties. We are off to a good start but we need to continue working hard at practice sessions to improve our play and to have a successful season."

The New Hartford Bears posted a 31-6 victory the North Utica Raiders at the New Hartford High School Field. Bears Game captains Dylan Hoffman, Mike Kelly and Dominick Masi won the opening toss and the Bears started the game on offense. Reggie German, Andrew Bushey, Nick Horth, Dylan Hoffman, Bryan Hoffman, Matt Maggio, and Alex Grimmer were on the line. Mike Kelly, Andrew Miller, Dominick Masi and Greg Hecker were in the backfield. It was 3 plays and the Bears were forced to punt. The punt was blocked and the Raiders had the ball on the Bear 33 yard line. It looked bad for the Bears
Joey Desens, Peter McGee and Joey Carcone entered the game to strengthen the Bear defense but it was Dylan Hoffman who recovered a fumble to put the Bears back on offense. This time the Bears quickly marched the ball down field and Greg Hecker swept the end to put the Bears ahead 6-0. The Bears controlled the remainder of the first half as Joey Desens intercepted a pass on defense and also scored a touchdown on offense. Andrew Miller also score a touchdown and a pass from Mike Kelly to Dominick Masi for an extra point made the score 19-0 at half time.
The second half started with the Bears on defense. Jacob Kamilow, Trent Herring, Brian Mathias, Nick Lavanti, and Steve Maggio were on the line. Dan Duffy, Joel Kamilow, and Sean Badger were at the linebackers and Fred DelGenio, Matt Smith and Thomas Nitti were in the secondary. This unit with the help of Ammar Kaashmiri, Glen Bland and Brad Jones played an excellent second half. Fred DelGenio and Steve Maggio both scored a touchdown while the Bears only gave up one. The game ended with the score 31-6.
After the game the coaching staff stated “It is always nice to win your first game; however, It is a long season and we will play much stronger opponents. We must continue working hard at practice sessions to improve our play and have a successful season.
